Up for sale is a Wilderness Systems Tempest 170 kayak in red with Werner Skagit Paddle. The kayak is in great condition with the usual marks and scratches on the bottom of the hull from use. I treat it with protectant each year which helps to keep the plastic hull in good shape. Though stored outside it is kept off the ground supported directly under the bulkheads to prevent the hull from deforming and it has always been covered to prevent sun damage. The kayak 17 feet long, 22 inches wide, and is rotomolded plastic so it's very durable.
The cockpit dimensions are 34 x 18 inches. It features a retractable skeg on the stern which helps the boat track well in the water depending on currents, wind and your individual paddling style. Inside there are adjustable thigh pads and foot braces to help accommodate paddlers of various heights and weights. The kayak features 3 separate compartments each divided by bulkheads and covered with hatches. The deck cording and bungees are all in great condition.
There is a gopro mount attached to the front of the kayak. Also included is a neoprene cover for the cockpit when not in use. The paddle is a Werner Skagit 220cm two piece paddle that can be feathered or offset, it has three adjustments for that. Please note that I've found the rear compartment to let in a very small amount of water during longer tips, I assume it enters through the skeg hardware in that section, it's never affected me though as I keep all my stuff in drybags when paddling but it is something to be aware of if you plan on storing non waterproof items in that compartment like loose clothes etc. Also of note is that two of the hatches are attached to the kayak with cordage but the front hatch was pulled off by a bear, not joking, when I was in Montana.
That hatch also has puncture marks on the top of it from the bear but I patched them with liquid rubber so the hatch is fully watertight and seals properly. Lastly there is a metal strap adjuster behind the seat that is stuck in place and cannot be adjusted. I've never needed to use it because of the other adjustments but if you do you could probably put some oil or cleaning solution on the metal adjuster to help free it for use. This has been a fantastic kayak for me to use, I've mostly paddled on lakes and a couple times took it to the coast, but I'm moving next year and can't take it with me. Its long and narrow hull allows it to glide effortlessly through calm waters and makes it very fast.
It's also quite fun for more choppy conditions. The price for the kayak and paddle is $925. If you don't want the paddle, contact me and i can alter the listing and reduce the price by $75 for you. This is a pick up only sale unless you wish to arrange some kind of shipping or freight yourself. If you have any other questions or would like to see more pics please let me know. Thanks.
