Boat Type: Kayak
Inflatable: Folding
Seating: Single
Wayland Harpoon Expedition Folding Kayak . Complete with spraydeck and 2 piece paddle . Also comes with an additional Klepper rucksack which holds the wooden frame elements and a bag for the hull - the two bags make it all a lot more manageable . The model is the Harpoon expedition 450, 1 single seater, which is a 4.5m long kayak, and it is configured to their expedition spec which includes deck lines, deck pockets, keel strips (extra strips of hull material along the lines of the stringers where the skin is taut and could wear) , and an aluminium rudder . This is a Wayland wooden framed folding kayak, made in Poland, and very similar in design to the Klepper folding kayaks.
The wooden frame slips into the hull, where it locks together , and then two inflatable tubes down the sides are inflated to tighten the skin on the frame .The hull is hypalon , which is incredibly tough (used for ribs) , and the deck is canvas . Colour is described as 'Crimson Dark Red' .The whole thing becomes rigid when assembled and the inflated tubes provide built in buoyancy even if you take on water .Everything about it is quite simple in design and manufacture , but in my opinion that is one of the beauties of the boat . Has all the bits and even the original instruction manual. The boat has not seen much usage and it performs very well . It is very stable , and even in a very choppy seas you feel completely at ease in this boat .
Carrying capacity is very good. It does not have the deck hatch option because I am not a fan of zips under strain. The boat is watertight and has had no repairs to the hull or canvas . It has been stored unused for a while bagged up in a dry garage hence such great condition. There have been two small repairs to frame elements :- A couple of screws on the wishbone (which is a wooden element across the back of the cockpit) were replaced because the originals pulled out .
This won't affect the performance of the boat at all . The other repair was to the seatback were the inset nut which holds the seat back in place came loose . This was fixed with chemical metal putty and will also have no effect on performance . Neither of these parts are elements of the main framework This is a classic and well sought after collectable kayak. I would welcome viewing before the auction closes. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require any further information.
