Up for sale is a legendary Perception Captiva 16' Touring Kayak. Firecracker red solid color, excellent condition. These are no longer made or sold by Perception which is too bad as they are awesome yaks. Still lots of info, specifications and photos on line on these as they had such a good reputation and following. For one thing they track like they are on rails, none of the zig-zag motion when you paddle small yaks, second they haul lots of gear, take multi day excursions, no problem, two dry hatches and lots of cockpit and deck room, have room for larger paddlers and they handle all kinds of water, been in 6' chop with this with nary a care.
The trend in past few years with kayaks is small little play boats easy to move and handle. Those are fine for just screwing around but nothing like this boat...it is a real boat. Boat has always been stored inside in a commercial storage facility so no sun damage/fading which is the main thing you need to worry about with any polyethylene boats. The kayak shines up nice when you clean it (see photos). Boat has been used (it is perhaps 10 years old, I purchased it new for around $1700 I believe), so it does have some abrasions and shallow scratches on bottom (the kayak odometer) but nothing deep or serious.
If your concerned about it you could rub them out quite easily I would imagine. Another big plus with this boat is it is older and consequently has the thicker polyethylene (much more durable). The new boats have much thinner lighter poly. Cheaper to produce, easier to carry and move. 425 lbs.
Max load, compare that to a play boat, lucky to be able to haul yourself and a couple beers and bag of chips! Two storage bulkheads (bulkheads do need a resealing job, get a good silicone sealer like you might use on your bathtub or sink, not hard or expensive to do, I think just one bulkhead could use the resealing actually based on last weekends paddle trip), adjustable seat and foot pads, drink holder. Good bungee straps on deck (everything is all original and no repairs or mods to boat). This is basically a overgrown Carolina 14' Kayak which is still made and you can read about online on Perception's site. Boat is made in South Carolina, USA by Perception.
Price is $550. Can deliver short distances for a small fee to cover gas/time. Yak is located in commercial storage in NW Reno just over the California State line just off I-80. Reason for sale is health issues. Getting too old for yak, gonna go canoe I think.
See photo of yak on lake in Sierra, up there last weekend, we are blessed with awesome lakes to use a boat like this. Cockpit is 18" x 32" to 21" x 34" depending on how you measure it. Perception gives the latter numbers I measured the former numbers. Boat is 16' long and 25.5" wide, weighs 62 lbs. From the original Perception catalog: "The Captiva takes the best of the Carolina and increases the cockpit size and height to accommodate the bigger brethren of the paddling family.
It also adds 15 inches to the overall length thereby increasing its volume, as well as creating cavernous cargo capacity. So if the Carolina won't hold you or your gear, but you still want to experience the nuances that set it apart from its competitors try the Captiva". Boat is also available on local selling platform, so if your interested place your bid and then it will be only available on classifieds board. Free Pickup locally. Note: Will be happy to deliver yak to shipper of your choice in Reno or wherever in surrounding areas (say within a hundred miles) for small fee (all negotiable).
If you do want to ship boat. I can even wrap boat in same material it came wrapped in to protect it. It is a insulation blanket material, worked perfect and still have it. Of course would have to be via truck as UPS doesn't do 16' long kayaks. Will be also happy to deliver boat to anyone at I-80 (like tractor trailor rig, parked at exit or whatnot), who doesn't want to get mixed up in residential area, done if before.
Live just off I-80. You of course make all arrangements and pay.NOTE: Just knocked $50 bucks off asking price. You are welcome to make an offer on the boat if you would like as well. If you enjoy nature and quality workouts, be best $500 bucks you ever spent! Can change your life boss.
Wow, never in my decade or two long career of buying/selling on classifieds board have I ever seen an item with so many views/watchers but nary a bid! What's up people? classifieds board is a buying/selling platform not a 'watching' platform. Gotta tell you some of you guys have gotten a bit strange and are obviously bored. Get a life already.
