The Orion sea kayak is a great expedition boat that is stable, yet has surprising speed and ability to manoeuver when required. I collected this boat straight from the P&S factory many years ago. It is glass fibre not plastic with a light blue deck and a white hull. It has a large circular front hatch and an even larger oval rear hatch suitable for carrying day or camping gear. The skeg is operated from the cockpit side.
The kayak has some scratches to the hull from use but no repairs and has always been stored under cover. Only selling because being over the age of 80, I am finding it difficult to get in and out of the cockpit. On 03-Aug-18 at 11:09:21 BST, seller added the following information: The Orion is about 5 m, 17 feet long. Over the years it has been paddled hundreds of miles on Lochs Lomond, Lubnaig, Venachar, Achray, Voil and Doine. As well as on the sea at Arisaig, Bute, Kilberry, Loch Fyne etcOn 05-Aug-18 at 22:17:38 BST, seller added the following information: Length 518 cm (5.18m), width 61 cm, weight 18 kg.
Suitable for men and women under 6 feet in height and less the 100 kg. Rubber cover for front hatch will need replacing sometime. On 06-Aug-18 at 22:50:09 BST, seller added the following information: The seat width is 42cm ,16.5 inches. If you're overweight or broad in the btm, the Orion is not for you. The spray deck and an excellent wooden paddle is included.
There is also a rack for storing the Orion upside down from the beams of a garage ceiling if wanted. Difficult to believe when you see the condition of the Orion but it is 27 years old, it was way back in 1991 that my wife and I went down to the P&H factory in Derbyshire to buy the brand new Orion. It was my wife who paddled the Orion, I had a P&H Umnak. But eventually she found it too difficult to get in and out of the cockpit. I took it over.
With the Orion you are only limited by how brave or how foolish you are as to where you go, Rebecc Ridgway paddled a similar P&H kayak round Cape Horn.On 07-Aug-18 at 10:48:09 BST, seller added the following information: Sorry missed the 'a' out of Rebecca Ridgway. She is Director of Ridgway Adventure some 15 miles south of Cape Wrath. In 1992 Rebecca became the first woman to kayak around Cape Horn in a team which included her father John Ridgway. John together with Chay Blyth were the first two to row across the Atlantic from Cape Cod to Aran in Ireland way back in 1966. Our last kayaking trip was from Milarrochy Bay, Loch Lomond to Port Ban on Incalloch island for a swim and to climb the hill and kayak back around the island.
On a warm sunny day in July with just a light wind. My wife now has the use of a much newer kayak with a large cockpit.
