Boat Type: Kayak
Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
This boat costs about £1000 new. Please feel free to make sensible offers. I have for sale this excellent, versatile, sea kayak which has served me well on the occasions that I have been able to paddle it each year, using it for trips around Pembrokeshire on the sea and estuaries. As a kayak coach, I looked for a sea kayak that was of good quality, strong and reliable in all conditions. It is a Wilderness Systems 170 Tempest in "mango" orange/yellow moulded polyethylene.
The manufacturers say it is for anyone between 120 and 220 lbs in weight. I weigh about 190 lbs and I am 6ft 1" and it suited me fine. I found it fast and easy to roll. Adjustable seat. Deck lines.
Three hatches, bow, stern and day. Internal watertight bulkheads. Criss-cross deck bungees. Cut out for fitting a compass (not fitted). 17ft long approx.
This kayak does not have a skeg fitted. I do have a skeg for it and some fittings but I have never found the need to fit it as this boat tracks well even in a following sea. I will include the skeg and the fittings I have in the sale. The kayak has various scratches on it from encounters with barnacles etc. When rock hopping on the Pembrokeshire coast.
I have tried to show those in the photos so please have a good look. There is an area of scratching by the cockpit and on the underneath at either end and in various other places there other scratches. There is a large shallow indentation in the hull under the seat which never bothered me as it didn't seem to affect performance. I have been told it can be got out by taking out the seat and placing a heavy bag of hot water inside the hull while it is supported at each end which will cause it to revert to the original profile? The boat has been stored in the garage.
I would prefer if you can come and collect the kayak so that you can see it and be sure you are happy before you take it away. However if you want to arrange a courier to collect that is fine also. I will also deliver up to 150 miles from Narberth, Pembrokeshire, if you pay the cost of diesel in advance.
