Hi, I am reluctantly offering for sale my 5m tandem touring kayak. She was never used that much and has been in dry storage in between. In use she is very comfortable and with her 32.5" / 83cm beam, very stable (you can both lean out the same side and she doesn't capsize), she tracks fairly well and yet is still reasonably manoeuvrable, given how long she is. She also seems to move pretty well with little effort. ;-) The longest trip I have done in her in one go was 18 miles, including portaging round the locks if a bigger boat wasn't going though.
With two people her 33kg is very manageable. She has always been handled very carefully and never intentionally dragged over anything. There are a few shallow scratches on the hull and a couple of 'spider cracks' that were there when I built her (see the pictures). I believe the spray decks are a rubber backed nylon and one needs a bit of tidying where the elastic goes though and the other has a hole in the apron that was nibbled by a mouse. I'm sure both could be repaired neatly or even just with some waterproof fabric tape (as used on tents etc).
The paddles are Ottersports and around 2.36 / 7'9" long. Since taking the pictures I've removed the blades and a section of the heat-shrink at each end because it was bubbled (water had got underneath) and to fit new drip rings. Should be fine for anyone not looking to go on an expedition. ;-) I assembled her from mouldings direct from the supplier. I joined the hull to the deck with screws through to a long wooden batten overlapping the hull and deck on each side and I also fastened the seats to the hull though circular marine ply blocks glassed to the bottom of the seat and the hull (you can see the stainless screw in the plan view of the cockpit).
The reason I did it that way was because it's so long, getting into the very bow or stern to do repairs or modifications would be very difficult whereas this way you simply remove the tape, undo the screws and the deck can be lifted off the hull. The name 'Gruesometwosome' (taken from the 'Wacky Races' cartoon) and stripe are just vinyl and should come off easily if required and shouldn't leave much of a mark as she hasn't ever been left in the sun. So, ideally suited to someone looking to do some touring / canoe camping or especially good for introducing youngsters to kayaking because of how stable / forgiving she is. I think the pictures offer a pretty accurate reflection of her condition. I may be willing to deliver or meet mid distance at cost (from M25, J25) for the right buyer by prior arrangement.
Good luck and I'm sure any buyer(s) will appreciate her as I / we did. The kayak did have 5 minutes of fame when Mum and I took her up the flooded High Street outside our house and we ended up in the local paper (no houses or other property were damaged etc). ;-) (Since taking the pictures I ordered new drip rings and am in the process of fitting them. Pics of the finished paddles will be available if required).
