Skin-On-Frame Greenland Kayak

Fleet reduction sale. Boat number two. I bought this skin-on-frame Greenland kayak from a mad Polish boat-builder in Ormskirk. He had a three car garage full of lovely boats he had built but very rarely put them in the water. I put her in the water.--- In the lakes and on the Lancashire coast.. She paddles very nicely, especially with a Greenlandic paddle, but I have too many boats and something has to go.

While I have had her I have put protective strips on the deck to take the abrasion of my roof bars, and repaired a weak place (stainless straps and copper rivets) in the cockpit coaming. This repair and the bronze screws holding the deck protection strips are the only metals in the entire boat. She is almost a museum piece. I have some spare skin fabric and the original construction jigs which I will be happy to pass on to a buyer along with a choice of seat and a couple of airbags. I am hanging on to my Greenlandic paddles - I like them.

This boat was built to the traditional measurements (beam equals backside plus two clenched fists etc.etc.) but for a European body rather than an Inuit one. This has produced a boat 16 feet long and 24 inches wide at the maximum flare of the deck. Rather less at the waterline. Cockpit is oval, 21 inches by 19. There is enough space forward for my size 46 feet if I wear wet suit boots.

Boat is stored on a rack in my shed and can stay there until collected by her new owner.
