STRUER Denmark K1 Tiger Kayak - The Best and Most Beautiful Ever Made As you likely know if you're looking at this listing, Struer is synonymous with flatwater performance kayaks. These are the finest hand-crafted wood veneer racing kayaks ever made. You only have to look at the handmade craftsmanship, finishing, and detailing to understand that these are no ordinary kayak. (See detailed photos) As much craftsmanship and care is built into these fine mahogany kayaks as into the finest handmade furniture. The ”TIGER” is believed by many to be the most beautiful kayak ever built.
The shape is clean and simple and every line relates to speed. It can’t be done any better! Struer's history is as long and as distinguished as the sport itself. The experienced athlete avoids ”soft” kayaks, and some times you can see them knock gently at the bottom. A dull sound reveals that there is no tension in the hull and therefore the kayak can’t be used by the best paddlers.
With the best possible wood for the purpose, Honduras-mahogany, forced to its highest tension, the “TIGER” can stand any criticism. The “TIGER” makes the best possible use of its length. The long waterline, less curvy then at the other kayaks. Brings absolutely minimal disruption in the water. The narrow bottom cuts its way incredibly smooth through the water, no matter if it’s calm or rough.
The shape of the deck provides extra freedom of movement. Paddle strokes get more effective when the paddle can be drawn close to the centerline of the kayak. The aft body is lower so that the “TIGER” can keep the course even in cross wind. The “TIGER” has got a spade rudder with great effect; small water resistance. In the “TIGER”, the paddler feels negligible loss of speed between the paddle-strokes, because of extremely low water resistance.
It has a perfect glide and doesn’t require any special style. Paddlers who have tried the “TIGER” call attention to the accelerating capacity. The willingness for sudden leap forward will infect the paddler. You can’t help spurting in a “TIGER”. I am selling the kayak due to a move.
I am the original owner and it has been used 15-20 times. It is in impeccable condition with the exception of a break in the veneer on the aftdeck that occurred when it was being moved across country by sloppy movers. The break can be repaired with epoxy by a woodworker, or can be taped. It has no effect on the performance or the watertightness of the shell, but it IS being reflected in my selling price. Transport will need to be managed by the buyer.
Please contact me if you have questions. I am sad to let this go, but trust that a knowing and appreciative new owner will make it a wonderful second partner on the water! We will blanket and wrap the boat for safe transport. You will need to arrange the carrier. The boat weighs less than 12 kg.
