This auction is for my much loved Ocean Kayak Drifter. Apart from it being a wonderful bright yellow colour I suppose I should add that at 12'6" long and 34" wide, with a weight carrying capacity of up to 500lb (she weighs 56lb herself, so on her trolley she is easy to move) this is the oil tanker of Ocean Kayak's older models. My husband and I started kayaking last year, a bit late in life, and this was my safe, easy and reliable introduction to the world of paddling. It isn't a speeder though you can get it to move along quite fast once your 'high paddle' technique improves (or when your partner challenges you to a sprint.....). What it IS, however, is a wonderfully stable and safe touring kayak that can take some abuse as you learn how to get on and off from the shore, or rocks, or a jetty (or how not to).
It is almost impossible to tip up, too, and an absolute pleasure to paddle on our inland waters (gentle rivers, lakes, reservoirs, canals). DOWNSIDE - this kayak is well known for leaving you with a soggy bottom! Unless you weight slightly less than the average hamster she sits quite low in the water and the scupper (drain) holes do let the water in. Of course, the reason she is so stable is precisely because she sits low in the water so I, for one, forgive her this small sin - and anyhow by the time you have got in, probably with wet legs at least already, and then dribbled more water over yourself with every stroke of the paddle because, frankly, the rubber 'drip guards' on ANY kayak paddle are less than useless, you are pretty wet anyhow. Just wear neoprene shorts or long johns, or a full suit in colder weather, and being wet becomes a bonus as you will be perfectly warm.
For a long time I swore I wouldn't ever need another kayak, but we have recently started adventuring further distances and out at sea, and when my husband got himself a OK Trident 15 I got massive 'kayak envy' so now I have one too - although I was used to my lovely yellow barge and the first time I tried the new, much slimmer, kayak I was terrified. Anyhow, she has to go. I am selling her as a ready to go package with my trolley and the one piece 220cm Carlisle Simply Magic paddle, as you can see from the pictures. Summer is upon us and at the moment the water is warm, the sky is blue, and there is nothing quite so much fun and relaxing as getting out on the water. This is the perfect time to try your hand at paddling a kayak - give it a go, I promise you will not regret it!
PAYMENT - Paypal or direct bank transfer before collection, or cash on collection, are all good for me. DELIVERY - collection only please (we are between Junctions 17 and 16 of the M6). If you will be taking her away on roof bars, you might want to take a look at the two sets of J-bars I am selling separately? H A P P Y B I D D I N G ! !
