Innova / Gumotex Sea Kayak Rudder For Helios Kayaks

Only for use with the Innova/Gumotex Helios inflatable kayak. The rudder helps the kayak track in a straight line, gives extra maneuverability in moving water, and can be a life saver when the wind kicks up. A rudder is particularly recommended when the Helios II is paddled as a double sea-touring kayak and when the boat is loaded near its capacity. When in doubt, bring the rudder. The rudder fits over the stern seam of the Helios and attaches in a minute with stainless steel wingnut screws (no additional tools required).

It is controlled with foot stirrups from the cockpit (aft in tandem). The rudder can quickly be disassembled and carried flat in the Helios pack-bag with the boat. The construction is of a machined black UHMW composite with a corrosion resistant aluminum swing-up fin. Weight: 1 lb.-10 oz. A rudder is not necessarily needed on the Helios I solo kayak for tracking but can be useful in following seas and challenging conditions.

Should you want to add a rudder to the Helios I, you will need longer control cords to the foot stirrups as the cockpit in the Helios I is further away from the rudder. This Helios rudder kit is outfitted with approximately 8 feet of Reflective Deck Line on each stirrup to fit the Helios II two-man kayak. If you plan to outfit a Helios I one-man kayak, you will want to get longer ropes. I have used this rudder from Venice, Italy to the Bahamas. I am only selling because I no longer have a Helios.
