Very rare chance to buy a little-used Gumotex Seawave solo/tandem 4.5m (14.7') inflatable kayak.Bought late 2020 direct from the factory and used for a few days last summer.Following my mods weighs from just 16kg. Will easily fit in your campervan or boot or as hold luggage on a plane with kilos to spare. Or for short trips straps harmlessly to the roof of any car with no rack needed. Never heard of Gumotex? Look them up.
Czech-made Nitrilon IKs since 1950, none of your Chinese PVC here and definitely no crappy, leak or burst-prone bladders. This means it's dead easy to dry after rinsing. Just spread it out, wipe down and roll up.For my sort of paddling – easy inshore, lochs and big rivers – it's one of the best touring solo/doubles out there, especially you're not convinced by drop stitch IKs, far less PVC as a durable hull fabric. Now I'm mostly using my packraft. This boat was a factory second and came with a small repair patch (see photo 7).The damage was never specified but it is highly unlikely to be a gash, more probably a cosmetic scratch during assembly so the boat could not be sold new as unmarked. In my experience in lively seas the Seawave's rounded I-beam floor is stable without the boat being ridiculously wide like so many current IKs.
But with a good fill and optional thigh straps plus the solid footrest adaption, this boat pulls fast across flatwater – important when conditions change at sea.And unlike UV-prone PVC, the durable 'old school' synthetic rubber Nitrilon – similar to hypalon whitewater rafts of old – will last for decades if my older Gumotex IKs were anything to go by. From previous experience I ditched the rubbish stock seats as soon as I bought it and fitted more comfortable and lighter seats: packraft seat base + SoT foam backrest. As with all my previous Gumboats I also replaced the similarly mushy footrest with a piece of solid PVC tube which is adjustable and gives much better contact for efficient paddle draws. This boat comes with an extra long rudder with a homemade footpedal-tube (pivots like bike handlebars) which is handy for sailing but is otherwise not essential. It was just a little experiment and can be completely removed.Tandem of solo, Seawaves track fine while being easy to turn for a 15-footer with just the stock skeg and your paddles.
I will also throw in my home-made folding skeg trolley for wheeling the inflated boat around like a wheel barrow. Saves having to use a car if you live near the water. Boat includesBravo Alu 4 R.E.D two-way barrel pump – fast and effortless. Pump up floor until PRV hisses; pump up sides to official 0.25 bar (3.6psi) or up to 4psi in cool UK conditions.
