The Feathercraft K1 is the best kayak made and the best kayak that has EVER been made by any company anywhere at any time. A lot better. It makes the boat safer, less tippy, more comfortable, able to carry more gear, etc. How does it do that you may ask? Well it's interesting to note that as far as we know, the first Eskimo kayaks were more like a Feathercraft than a hardshell kayak. They consisted of skins stretched over a frame of bone and/or wood.

And the skin does something marvelous that a hardshell kayak cannot do, it flexes and in a way becomes "one with the ocean" as the water pushes in one place the boat can absorb that and flex and stretch. This makes the boat less tippy, particularly when paddling with waves coming across the beam as we sometimes must. So that's an ancient advantage of a skin kayak that feathercraft captures by stretching their high tech "skin" over the aluminum frame. Another big factor in what makes Feathercraft better is the sponsons. These you would not even know about unless you get in a feathercraft to paddle and you see these 2 long hoses by the seat with what looks like a valve that goes on a blow up air mattress like a Paco pad.

These tubes allow you to "tune" the kayak by inflating the sponsons which are long, narrow inflatable pockets or tubes running almost the full length of the kayak, right near the waterline. These sponsons dramatically increase the safety and stability of the Feathercraft kayak and provide an enormous advantage over hardshell boats. Furthermore, the sponsons take up no storage space (whereas flotation bags and similar devices used in hardshell boats fill up precious cargo space). And the sponsons work much better since the flotation is where you need it most, right along the waterline. A small amount of flotation placed strategically along the waterline does far more to improve your safety and stability than a big bag full of air in the cargo hold will ever do!

A couple of times I have forgotten to blow up the sponsons before paddling out from the shore, and WOW, what a difference it makes to the initial stability, final stability, and handling of the boat! Another benefit of the sponsons is that they provide the experienced FC paddler some ability to tune the boat a bit for different conditions by adding a little more or less air to the sponsons. I have 2 K-1's available. One red & one blue. They are in good to excellent shape, No holes, tears or repairs.

Each comes with the original color matching backpack, spray skirt, cockpit cover & sea sock plus assembly manual & video. Also I have some other accessories with them.
