Country/Region of Manufacture: Canada
This is a 1994 Necky Tofino expedition tandem kayak laid up in fiberglass. Made by legendary boat builder Mike Neckar of British Columbia, Canada. The Tofino was designed for a solo trans-Atlantic paddle. With that goal in mind, Mike designed a smooth chined hull with extra large forward volume to handle the most extreme open ocean conditions. This boat has been to big water (Juneau, Glacier Bay, Barkley Sound, Tofino, Battle Island Group, etc.) and loves big waves and chop.
It is beamier and deeper than the Necky Nootka tandem and rides rough water much smoother than the SeaScape tandems. Condition is "Good Used Condition". The LENGTH is 20’ 4” from bow point to stern. With dropped or folded (stowed) rudder it’ll still be under 22’ in length which is important. Washington State ferries charges extra for vehicles/loads that are 22’ or longer in length.
The hull is in excellent used condition with no major dings or scratches that go beyond the gel coat. The bow and keel have an extra layer of glass tape & gel coat for beaching the boat in rough conditions. Neoprene hatch seals are in great shape with strong elastic around the edges. Fiberglass hatch covers (front/rear) are in perfect working order and have no cracks or any signs of abuse. Self-rescue rigging needs to be restrung (all three locations).
The cockpit coaming and bulkheads are immaculate and watertight. Rudder cables are newer stainless steal with heat shrink. Seats are sculpted closed cell foam and in near mint condition. Front cockpit seat back is cracked, but usable. It should be replaced before any long multi-day trip (plastic sheeting and cutting service is available at any TAP Plastic (or equivalent) store).
Rear transom (stern bulkhead) was just professionally repaired by Rhonda Schwab (Kayakers Go Postal - Tacoma, WA). You will need to install a rudder. The original Necky rudder was corroded and not serviceable. Local pick-up in East King County, Snoqualmie Valley. I am open to delivery to Greater Seattle area if reasonable distance and prior arrangement is made.
