I am selling a 2014 used Hobie Mirage Oasis tandem kayak. It includes the kayak, two paddles, two removeable seats, a blue Astral Adult Medium/Large Type III PFD, kayak cart, and the attached rudder. I purchased the kayak used in May 2020 from the original owner who purchased it new in 2014 from Oak Orchard Canoe & Kayak in Rochester, NY. The kayak is in good condition. The only flaws I noticed are scratches on the bottom of the kayak (probably from dragging it ashore a rocky shoreline), scratches on one of the Mirage Drive propulsion system fins, rust on the metal rings for the seats, and a broken weld on the kayak cart.
I have included photos of all of the kayak flaws. Please note that the seals for the hatches, the bungee cords, and the Mirage Drive propulsion system fins are made of rubber and rubber degrades over time. It would not surprise me if at sometime years in the future one of these rubber parts may need replaced. The parts made of rubber are currently in good condition. The price for a new 2020 Hobie Mirage Oasis is $4,299.
There have been changes over the years to the Hobie Oasis kayak model, I am not sure what exactly all of those changes are. If you are interested to find out it would be best to contact Hobie or a Hobie dealer or you might be able to find out this information from the the Hobie forum or another internet forum. When I was researching the differences before I bought the kayak, some people said there were changes in the hull design, the 2014 kayak Mirage drive propulsion system does not go in reverse as the newer version do (I think they started that in 2015), and the later versions of this kayak had the seat elevated more which some people seem to like. But please do your own research, I do not know the differences between a 2014 Hobie Mirage Oasis kayak with models of other years, it would be best to contact Hobie about this. It is a nice kayak.
Everything works well - both Mirage Drive propulsion systems, both hand rudder controls, and the hand controls to raise and lower the rudder. I was surprised that it was stable enough to stand up and fly fish from on a calm day. It is not the fastest kayak but it was not designed for that, the tradeoff for not being so fast is that it is very stable for a kayak, faster kayaks are much more tippy and unstable. I am selling it because I prefer a faster kayak and I rarely kayak with two people. I also wanted to note that the Mirage Drive system is very nice, but if there are lots of tall weeds in the water near the water surface, it does not work well, you will have to use the paddle(s) in those areas.
If you are near Wheeling, WV and you would like to take a look at the kayak before the auction ends, please let me know. It is currently on my car roof rack, I could meet you at a local lake so that you could try it out to see if it is a kayak that suits you. I would not recommend buying a kayak unless you had previously tried paddling that particular model of kayak since there are many differences between kayak models and different people have different preferences concerning a particular kayak model. There are no returns for the kayak. I have accurately described the kayak and provided plenty of pictures showing its condition.
If you purchase the kayak and you do not like it, then you would have to resell it to someone else, etc. I imagine that most people interested in buying the kayak will be nearby and want to pick it up. But if you want to arrange shipping yourself which is paid by you and have someone pick it up for you, that is fine.
