Notice: This kayak is available for local, in-person pick-up only. Kayak is located in South Reading, Vermont. I will not ship or deliver. I am offering a used, 15-foot, Folbot Kodiak folding kayak for sale. This is a 2002 model year craft.
I purchased it new. This was my first kayak and has been on many adventures near and far. It has probably been assembled and disassembled 125 times. It hasn't been used in several years, so it's time to part ways with it. The kayak is fully functional, but it shows its age and has some issues.
Kayak was assembled, inspected, and photographed on 04/09/23. The attached photos are from the 04/09/23 assembly. Typical of any used folding kayak, the Hypalon bottom has scratches and abrasions, but there are no rips, and I didn't notice any punctures. Adhesive Hypalon patch material will be included with the kayak in the event that there are any punctures that I didn't see. I have never had to use any of the patch material.
The deck material appears to be in good condition with no rips or observable degradation. One of the inflatable sponsons no longer inflates. When you blow into it, you can hear air coming out. This can probably be fixed. The frame has a few issues.
One of the lower longitudinal aluminum tubes on the center bow piece of the frame has a partially broken end around the screw hole (see photo), but it is still functional. I am including a new section of tube that can be cut to size and drilled to replace this broken section, as the piece may eventually fail if more of the metal around the screw hole breaks off. The left stern side frame piece end bracket has been duck taped (see photo) because the rivets came loose; this fix is solid. The bracket on the right bow side piece is a little loose and may also eventually need to be duck taped. The longeron ends may need to be sanded smooth or cut a hair to make connecting them a bit easier.
All cross frames are in great shape. The deck bungee cords could use replacement or new attachment hook ends. The kayak will convey with a rudder, assembly directions, deck repair cloth, seat, paddle, two carrying bags, and certificate of manufacture that lists the hull number and year of manufacture. The boat has been stored in a dry basement; however, it still smells like a boat that's been stored in a basement. Folding kayaks are very much a labor of love.
Assembly and disassembly can be a hassle. I would prefer to sell this boat to someone who is familiar with the brand and how to assemble this model. The new owner should have the patience to put it together and take it apart, as well as the repair skills to keep it going. Given that Folbot has gone out of business, this would be a great parts boat for someone who already owns a Folbot Kodiak. Dogs not included, sorry.
